You can be a part of ending homelessness
in this community.
Connections for the Homeless serves as a safety net for neighbors who need support to maintain safe, stable housing in Evanston and northern Cook County.
Make a gift that supports your community.
Your financial contributions and in-kind donations have an immediate impact on neighbors in need. Our effectiveness depends on support from people like you who want to make a difference.
Volunteer your time for good
More than 1,600 volunteers advance our mission each year by cooking meals, sorting donations, and building community with residents. Learn more about how positive and enduring change can start with a sandwich.
Use your voice to make a difference
Advocates and allies advance our mission by supporting policies that will expand housing opportunities for all. We take the idea of housing as a human right and advocate for it at the local, state, and federal levels.

Food insecurity doesn’t shut down when the government does.
We’re anticipating a huge influx of neighbors turning to our food pantries for their groceries because of the government shutdown and the loss of SNAP benefits starting November 1.
Help us replace missing SNAP benefits for neighbors by signing up to donate food items or making a monetary donation. Or, if you need help with groceries, find the hours and addresses of our food pantries here.
Every Dollar Given Now Becomes Part of Our Line of Defense
Laresa turned to Connections for the Homeless because her only other options were living with domestic violence or living on the streets. With two children to care for and nowhere else to go, she began meeting regularly with a caseworker, who soon realized that Laresa could qualify for federal Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) once her disability was properly diagnosed.
Now, Laresa has been part of Connections’ PSH program for more than 15 years. “Even just talking to my caseworker relieves my stress,” Laresa said. “Living in PSH has given me peace of mind.”
Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) combines long-term housing subsidies with wraparound supportive services such as case management, health and behavioral care, and employment support to people with disabilities. Because of its success, PSH now represents more than half of the national inventory of housing for people coming out of homelessness.
Today, Connections’ PSH program is under existential threat. The newly proposed federal budget would dismantle this vital lifeline. Make a gift today so we can protect and expand the programs that keep people successfully stably housed.
